Birdsong over the Disko Bay - Ilulissat, Greenland, April 2025
Outside the balcony of a guesthouse in Ilulissat, Greenland on April, 2025.
Greenland has always been my dream destination. When I finally had the chance to set foot on this land, years of imagining the arctic world at last became reality before my eyes.
This recording was made in the spring of 2025 from the balcony of a guesthouse in Ilulissat, Greenland. At the time, the temperature was around −15 °C, and the sea ice in Disko Bay had not yet fully melted. Only the areas closer to the shore had thawed, revealing open water, and birds gathered around these areas to feed.
I can’t identify the exact species of the birds, but they can roughly be divided into two types: one is a kind of gull, and the other is a type of duck that dives underwater. In the recording, you can clearly hear their calls, the sound of their wings beating, and the splashes they make as they dive into the water.
