Before heading to Xitou this year, I checked the weather forecast and saw little but rain. I set out with modest expectations, deciding to simply accept whatever the forest had to offer. After all, the greatest charm of field recording lies in its unpredictability—and this trip rewarded me with an unexpectedly rich and layered forest soundscape.
June in Xitou marks the transition from spring to summer. Days of continuous rain had noticeably thinned the crowds, leaving the forest exceptionally lush and full of life. The grass seemed greener and more abundant than in previous years, and everywhere I looked was covered in vibrant shades of green.
This recording captures not only the chorus of cicadas and birds, but also the distant rumble of thunder—remarkably, without any accompanying rainfall—as well as the nighttime calls and movements of a Formosan Reeves's muntjac.

今年前往溪頭前，查了天氣預報幾乎都是雨天，因此這次錄音只是抱著順其自然的心態，不敢有太多期待。然而，田野錄音最大的魅力，正是它的不可預測性，也因此讓我意外錄下了一段層次豐富的森林聲景。
六月的溪頭，正值春夏交替。連日降雨讓遊客明顯減少，也讓森林顯得格外濕潤而充滿生機。今年的草地似乎也比往年更加茂盛，放眼望去盡是一片翠綠。
這次的錄音，不僅收錄了蟬鳴與鳥叫，還意外錄下一段沒有雨聲相伴的遠方雷鳴，以及夜間的山羌活動。
